Internet offers customers access to Internet site monitoring and site
blocking software through our website. These software programs help
monitor sites that people — particularly children — access
or visit. While there are many filtering programs available, Lackawaxen
is providing links to a few of these programs so our customers can
view some of the different software programs and tools available.
You can purchase the software online, and each site explains how to
download and install the software on your home computer, and how to
check or use it. The software monitors what sites are visited by all
who use a particular computer. You can also set up the software to
block particular sites — for instance, sites with a certain name
in the address, on related to a certain subject matter — from
being viewed. The software prevents children from viewing sites you
don’t feel are appropriate, and allows you to monitor which sites
your kids are using.
The reality unfortunately is that "less appropriate"
sites still gain the most attention on the World Wide Web, with
more and more hits every day. While we may wish that more worthy
or educational information is available, and "less appropriate"
content limited, this is not the case. We certainly can’t change
what appears or is available to viewers on the web, but we can help
you prevent your loved ones — whether intentionally or by accident
— from viewing content you don’t feel is appropriate.

As part of our new service, we now offer a way to block your child's email address from receiving unauthorized mail. You can go the the Subscriber Portal for your child's account and set the incoming mail to include only those email addresses that you deem appropriate. Go to the spam filtering option and select "Friends Circle Only" and enter the email addresses of friends and family. This will block email from any other addresses from coming into your child's email. Remember that you will need to update this list as any email address changes or if additions or deletions are needed.
