Windows XP Home and Professional Set-up
1.Set up your Dialup Connection
- Click "Start"
- All Programs
- Accessories
- Communication
- New Connection Wizard
- System Displays: Network Connection Type
- Leave dot in box that says "Connect to the Internet"
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Getting Ready
- Select "Set up my Connection manually [Clicking
in the circle will move the dot]
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Internet Connection
- Leave "Connect using a dialup modem"
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Connection Name
- Type "LTIS" (without the quotes) in the box for ISP name
- Click "Next"
- Systems Displays: Phone Number to Dial
- Type 685-5555 or *70,685-5555 if you have Call Waiting on your line
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Internet Account Information
- Type in lower case the user name and password that you were given
at the time of install. Verify password and leave the check marks in all boxes
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Completing the New Connection Wizard
- Check the box for "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop".
- Click "Finish"
2. To add your DNS numbers to your account, you will click Start,
Connect To and Show all connections
- Network Connections will open and under dial-up you will see an icon labeled
"LTIS".
- Right click on the LTIS icon and from the menu that appears left click on
Properties
- On the General Tab make sure your modem and phone number are correct.
- On the Options Tab, change the drop down box for "Idle time before
hanging up:" to say never.
- Click on the Networking tab to bring that forward.
- Make sure that the "Type of Dial-up Server" is PPP: Internet Windows
..
If anything else appears in this box, you will have to click on the down arrow
and change this to PPP
- In the next section you will see several items in the white box.
- Make sure a check mark is in the box that says "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
and click on it once to highlight. Click on the word Properties below and
to the right of the white box.
- When this screen comes up you will have to make sure that "Obtain an
IP Address Automatically is selected and then select "Use the following
DNS Server addresses"
- In the Preferred DNS enter the numbers 63.77.143.9
- In the Alternate DNS enter the numbers 216.163.120.21
- Make sure that you click "OK" through both of the screens to save
your changes
- To make a shortcut to your desktop you will need to right click on your
LTIS icon and left click on "Create shortcut" The screen will prompt
you that it "cannot create a shortcut here do you want to make one on
your desktop?" to which you will reply "Yes"
- Left Click the X in the upper right hand corner of the Network Connections
menu to close the program and return you to the desk top.
3. Connecting to the Internet
- Double click on the blue E that represents Internet icon on your desk top.
This will bring you to your Internet Connection screen. If this box does not
appear you will first need to double click on your shortcut to LTIS that you
created.
- To make sure that the Connect box appears every time you want to get on
line, you can change the setting in Internet Explorer
- Open Internet Explorer, select Tools and Internet Options.
- You can change your homepage on the General tab to:
- Click on the Connection tab and in the white box you will see your default
connection
- Click "Always Dial my Default Connection" if it is not checked.
Make sure you click Apply
- Select the Programs tab to make sure that your mail is set to Outlook Express
and then Apply and OK.
4. Setting up your Email account.
- To get to Outlook Express to set up your mail you can either double click
Outlook Express from the Start menu or you can click on Mail and then Get
mail from within the Internet Explorer browser
- Once in Outlook Express click "Tools"
- Click Accounts from the menu
- Click "Add" then Mail and a wizard will appear.
- Type in a name that you want people to see when you send them email
- Leave dot in selection "I already have an email address that I would
like to use" and type in lower case the email address that you
were given by LTIS
- The curser is blinking in the 2nd box down and should be by
Incoming mail server. You will need to type in lower case "pop.ltis.net"
(without the quotes) in this box.
- Click the Tab key on your keyboard and in lower case fill in the
next box with "smtp.ltis.net" in the box that says Outgoing email
server.
- Click "Next"
- System says: Internet Mail logon
- Type username in lower case (do not type @ltis.net after username)
- Type password in lower case and check box for save password if you
do not want to type in the password every time you want to get mail
- Click "Next"
- Click "Finish"
