Windows 2000 Professional Set-up
1.Set up your Dialup Connection
- Click "Start"
- Programs
- Accessories
- Communication
- Internet Connection Wizard
- System Displays: Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard
- Select "I want to set up my Internet Account manually, or I want to
use a local area network (LAN)" [Clicking in the circle will move the
black dot]
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Setting up your Internet Connection
- Click "I connect through a phone line and modem"
- Click "Next"
- Systems Displays: "Step 1 0f 3: Internet account connection information"
- Type the ISP phone number which is 685-5555 or *70,685-5555 if you have
Call Waiting on your line
- Take the check mark out of "Dial using area code and country code"
by clicking on the box
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: "Step 2 of 3: Internet account logon information"
- Type in lower case the user name and password that you were given at the
time of install
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: "Step 3 of 3: Configuring your computer"
- Type a name for your connection to the Internet. It should be named LTIS
(I will use this name through the remainder of the setup)for easy reference
if you need to call the Help Desk in the future.
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Set up your Internet mail account
- Click "Yes"
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Your name
- Type your name or an alias into this spot. Remember that people who receive
e-mail from you will see this name.
- Click "Next"
- Type the email address that you were given at the time of install. This
would be your user name followed by @ltis.net
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: E-mail Server Names
- In the first box check to be sure it displays POP3 server
- In the second box you need to enter, in lower case "pop.ltis.net"
(without the quotes), this is the incoming mail server name. To get to the
next box use the TAB key.
- In the third box you need to enter in lower case "smtp.ltis.net"
(without the quotes), this is the outgoing mail server name
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: Internet mail logon
- Type in the account name in lower case, thisis the same as your user name.
Make sure you do not type in @ltis.net. Type in the password for your
e-mail in lower case (usually the same as your logon password) If you want
your password saved so you do not have to enter it every time you get your
e-mail, leave the check mark in the box. If you remove the check from the
box then you will have to type your password every time you get mail.
- Do not put a check mark in the box for Secure Password Authentication.
- Click "Next"
- System Displays: "Completing the Internet Connection Wizard"
- Take the check mark out of the box by "To connect to the Internet immediately,
select this box and then click Finish"
- Click "Finish"
2. To add your DNS numbers to your account,
you will click Start, Settings and then Network and Dialup Connections
- When you have Network and Dialup Connections open you will see at least
2 icons. One of the icons displays: "Make new connection" and the
other one is your connection to LTIS service.
- Right click on the LTIS icon and from the menu that appears left click
on Properties
- Click on the Networking tab to bring that forward.
- Make sure that the "Type of Dial-up Server" is PPP:Internet
Windows
.. If anything else appears in this box,you will
have to click on the down arrow and change this to PPP
- In the next section you will see several items in the white box.
- Make sure a check mark is in the box that says "Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP)" and click on it once to highlight. Click on the word Properties
below and to the right of the white box.
- When this screen comes up you will have to make sure that "Obtain
an IP Address Automatically is selected and then select "Use the following
DNS Server"
- In the Preferred DNS enter the numbers 63.77.143.9
- In the Alternate DNS enter the numbers 216.163.120.21
- Make sure that you click "OK" through both of the screens
to save your changes
- To make a shortcut to your desktop you will need to right click on
your LTIS icon and left click on "Create shortcut" The screen will
prompt you that it "cannot create a shortcut here do you want to make
one on your desktop?" to which you will reply "Yes"
- Left Click the X in the upper right hand corner of the Network
and Dialup Connections menu to close the program and return you to the desk
top.
3. Connecting to the Internet
- Double click on the blue E that represents Internet icon
on your desk top. This will bring you to your Internet Connection screen.
If this box does not appear you will first need to double click on your shortcut
to LTIS that you created.
- To make sure that the Connect box appears every time
you want to get on line, you can change the setting in Internet Explorer
- Open Internet Explorer; select Tools; and Internet
Options.
- You can change your homepage on the General tab to:
http://www.ltis.net
- Click on the Connection tab and in the white box you
will see your default connection
- Click "Always Dial my Default Connection"
if it is not checked. Make sure you click Apply
- Select the Programs tab to make sure that your mail
is set to Outlook Express and then Apply and OK.
- In Outlook Express your mail account should be set up,
but if it is not working correctly click on Tools and Accounts. Then select
the Mail tab and Properties. Click through each tab and make sure that all
the setting agree with the previous information.
